Making money on forex with options means watching the movements of the various risky cross pairs and playing your hand accordingly. For the entire month of September we’ve been experiencing “the great melt up” as we see the Fed printing money as fast as it can and dumping into the market to inflate asset prices. Welcome to “bubbleconomics part deux”. Today Is No Different One wonders if the Fed knows (it does) or cares (it doesn’t) that the populace knows the stock market is being made into yet another dot-comish size bubble. The Fed is on a mission to make the economy appear better going into an election cycle and improve the export competitiveness of US goods overseas. What we have on out hands is an all out currency war and the very fact that the US is the worlds biggest debtor nation makes us the most competitive in the war. Why? Although it took us a few days longer than expected to hit and break the 10600 target on the Dow we’re clearly now through it and re-evaluating indicators. My favorite chart is telling me we’re nearing another peak and I’m honestly looking for the fold-over to negative (still rising presently but at 10600 the Dow is no longer a bargain as best I can tell). Weakening Yen Should Continue to Bouy Day Trading Markets Bank of Japan intervention over the last week has really thrown a wrench into the works of market levels. Basically these days (as reported elsewhere) it is a race to the bottom in terms of debasing currencies. Debasing low interest rate currencies temporarily raises risky stock markets elsewhere. Longer term the impact will be to force other countries to devalue their own currencies in an attempt to keep their manufacturing sectors price competitive. Basically – it’s going to be a forex bloodbath, which is pretty much what all the gold bugs have been hoping for. Day Trading Options to Make Money 7/27/10

Day trading options to make money today involve starting with about a plus 0.6% rise in the S&P 500 off yesterday’s close. We missed with our binary hedge yesterday (which happens more often than not when you don’t get a 50-75bp spread). I’m not 100% certain but I think someone let a cat out of the bag today and I am trying to interpret where that will ultimately lead us long term. This new bit of info has serious implications about what the long term bias should be. It’s… important. Anyway, we had strong risk plus in the forex trading markets overnight. Will have to watch where forex markets move post US open as per normal (markets were still pro risk but weaker than overnight levels). Bias (pending thoughts above) remains negative however I don’t let that constrain me. When it comes to options trading / day trading I go where I think the money is going, regardless of bias. Ok the headline binary options trading contra dance was mostly to draw you two-steppers out there into the discussion but it is still relevant to the topic of the day: contra-indicators. It has long been the joke of traders that the “best contra-indicator” to a stock’s performance was to be touted as a “winner” or “risisng star” in Barron’s magazine. The point being not that Barron’s writers are idiots (that would be totally unfair to say), but that by the time anyone actually got to reading the Barron’s article any positive trading opportunity would have long since passed. Barron’s Brings Late-Comers to the Party and Sticks Them with the Bill Inevitably what ended up happening was that readers (a.k.a. late-comers to the party) buy at the top – and if they’re lucky – take a 10% haircut when they get stopped out on the way down. Those poor fools without stop-loss orders end up with dead money – never to find liquidity again. Is this abysmal performance Barron’s fault? Heck no. Binary options trading alert: despite cool start this morning seeing indicators turn favorable toward risky assets. Looking for positive move from Dow DIA SPY and resource based forex crosses. Evening recap: So we made the call about 10:25 EDT with the Dow and S&P 500 trading down between 0.33% and 0.47% depending on when you happened to look at the ticker. Forex cross rates we’ll have to fudge a little because of the imprecise time of the market alert but movements were strong enough throughout the day to prove the point. Taking the high points (meaning worst possible start point) of 10:25 we’ll call the CAD/USD .9734, AUD/USD .8626, and NZL/USD at .6967 as of 10:25am. The market swing from negative at the open to positive just before 10:30 was clearly visible, and more importantly, tradable.
